The vehicle protection device has a protective body (1), which is transferred through a standby position (B) by a drive unit (2) in a protected position. An activation of the drive unit is triggered by a pyro-mechanical actuator (11). The drive unit is coupled with a holding component (6), and the holding component has a separating section (12), which is separated by the actuator. The drive unit is activated by separating the separating section.
