Apparatus and methods for detecting and characterizing motion-related error of moving micro-entities are described. Motion-related error may occur in streams of moving micro-entities, and may represent a deviation in and expected arrival time or an uncertainty in position of a micro-entity. Motion-related error of micro-entities is observed in a flow cytometer, e.g., as pulse jitter, and is found to have a functional dependence on a parameter related to a system clock. The motion-related error may be characterized by correlating measurements of micro-entities moving within a fluid stream. |

1. A system for moving micro-entities between a first location and one or more additional locations, the system comprising:
detection apparatus to detect the presence of a micro-entity at least at the first location; and one or more processors configured to:
receive a first signal, for each of a plurality of micro-entities, indicating a first arrival time at the first location;measure, for each of the plurality of micro-entities, a respective delay time, wherein the respective delay time is measured between the first arrival time and a reference signal provided by the system;receive additional signals, for each of the plurality of micro-entities from each of the one or more additional locations, indicating one or more respective additional arrival times at each of the one or more additional locations;measure, for each of the plurality of micro-entities, a respective deviation for each respective additional arrival time from a respective expected arrival time at each of the one or more additional locations; andstore the measured respective delay times in association with the measured respective deviations. |
