<p>A turbomachine arrangement comprises a turbine including a housing having an exhaust gas inlet 42, and an outlet 44. A fluid storage device 46 is linked to the turbine inlet 42 by a conduit 48 and a flow control device 50 selectively enables fluid to flow from the fluid storage device 46 to the turbine inlet 42 via the fluid conduit 48. The flow control device 50, eg solenoid valve, is actuated by an actuator 56 under the control of a controller, eg ECU, 54. When a desire for rapid acceleration is detected at lower engine speeds, the actuator 56 opens the valve 50 to boost the turbomachine and reduce turbo lag. Unidirectional valves 60, 70 may be provided to prevent gas passing from the turbine inlet 42 to the storage device 46 and from the storage device 46 to the inlet manifold, respectively. The fluid storage device 46 is pressurised by the compressor of a turbocharger; in a modification, the storage device (46a, fig.3) it is pre-filled with pressurised fluid; alternatively, it may form part of another vehicle pressurised system, eg braking system.</p> |
