<p>The method involves determining an ampacity (A) of high-voltage line (100) from an operating temperature limit of high voltage line, distribution temperature, conduction parameters, and meteorological parameters. A value of the ampacity is selected by optimizing a probability of exceeding the distribution temperature, where the probability is defined based on a joint probability model of operating current strength and temperature that depends on meteorological parameters. The selected ampacity value is recorded (118) in a storage unit of a monitoring device. The selection of the value of the ampacity is obtained by initializing ampacity to a value (108), estimating probability of exceeding the distribution temperature (110), comparing the probability with limit value (112) and updating the ampacity value (116).
