Devices and methods for retaining a gastro-esophageal implant

Various methods and devices are described for retaining a medical implant within a body cavity. According to one aspect, at least a portion (16) of a medical implant is positioned within a body cavity, and a wall of the body cavity is re-shaped such that the re-shaped wall (14) prevents migration of the medical implant out of the body cavity. The re-shaped body wall may form a tissue pocket, tunnel, or other barrier against migration of the implant.

1. A method of treating a patient having an esophagus, a stomach, and a gastro-esophageal junction, the method comprising:
forming a plurality of discrete tissue plications on a wall of a gastrointestinal tract at or adjacent the gastro-esophageal junction; and coupling an individual restrictor member to each tissue plication of the plurality of plications, wherein the restrictor members collectively are configured to restrict a flow of food from the esophagus into the stomach.
