The on-board unit determines the position to periodically broadcast position messages containing the respective current position upon receipt of marker. A control unit detects vehicle based on position messages broadcast by on-board unit. #CMT# : #/CMT# An independent claim is included for a control method for road toll system. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Control device for road toll system based on on-board units carried by vehicles such as truck or passenger car. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The on-board unit determines the position to periodically broadcast position messages, thus prevents violating vehicles that are not picked up within an acceptable time frame from incessantly continuing to broadcast the position messages. The on-board units (OBU) are equipped with little additional functionality so as to wirelessly identify themselves, quasi on their own, as an OBU of a marked violating vehicle. Hence, the automatic controls of vehicles, including the on-board units are carried out even in large, broadly branched road systems that contain high-speed and opposing traffic routes. The control units include comparatively little equipment because they do not ascertain violations, but only detect emissions of marked OBUs and thus track down violation vehicles.
