<p>PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for automatically controlling a backlight of a camera are provided to automatically perform a backlight compensation operation based on a brightness value of all pixels, thereby performing an optimal backlight compensation operation during a photographing state. CONSTITUTION: A dark pixel and a highlight pixel are detected by pixel scan of a photographing image(S12). If the number of dark pixels exceeds a preset predetermined number, a brightness value of the highlight pixel is subtracted from the brightness value of all pixels. A delta brightness value is calculated(S14). A backlight compensation operation is automatically performed based on the calculated delta brightness value(S15).</p> |
