The present invention pertains to a plant-biomass hydrolysis method having the following steps: a first step in which a mixture containing plant biomass, a solid catalyst, an acid, and water is heated; and a second step in which a mixture containing an acid, water, and a solid that was separated out from the reaction solution yielded by the first step and contains the plant biomass and the catalyst is heated. The maximum heating temperature in the second step is higher than the maximum heating temperature in the first step. The present invention also pertains to a method in which the aforementioned hydrolysis method is used to manufacture glucose and xylose. The present invention makes it possible to efficiently obtain both glucose and xylose from real biomass. |
