Provided are a method for controlling an electronic device, capable of determining a control operation and a time to perform the control operation by taking into consideration various parameters when the electronic device controls the external device; and an electronic device thereof. The method for controlling the electronic device includes the steps of acquiring profile information to determine the control operation for at least one external device and a time to perform the control operation; and determining the control operation for the at least one external device and the time to perform the control operation based on the profile information.
