PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a metallic material having a chromium layer with enhanced machining accuracy by suppressing crack or chipping of a die lip part; a method for manufacturing the same; and a die using the metallic material. SOLUTION: In the die, a chromium layer 12 is formed on a surface of a metallic base material 10, and the chromium layer of small crack density is formed by performing the friction stir welding process on the surface of the chromium layer 12.
