877,091. Separating gaseous mixtures. DISTILLERS CO. Ltd. March 15, 1960 [May 21, 1959; June 12, 1959], Nos. 17238/59 and 20151/59. Class 8(2). Separation of low and high boiling point impurities from carbon dioxide is effected by distillation in a column 1 in the presence of a solvent for the high boiling impurities which is miscible with water and with liquid carbon dioxide, e.g., ethanol whereby said high boiling impurities e.g., water, fusel oil and aldehydes are withdrawn as base product through a duct 4 and the overhead mixture of gaseous carbon dioxide and low boiling impurities e.g. permanent gases are passed through ducts 8, 11 to a separating column 12 after cooling in an exchanger 9 ; pure liquid carbon dioxide being withdrawn through a duct 19 and residual gaseous impurities through a duct 13. The latter are further compressed at 14 and after serving to heat the boiling coil 16 of the column 1 traverse a condenser 18 having outlets 22, 23 for vapour and liquid respectively. The condenser 18 also serves as the evaporator for column 12 by being connected thereto by a liquid carbon dioxide duct 21 and a gaseous carbon dioxide duct 20.
|
