According to an embodiment of the present invention, a transmission having a solenoid valve comprises an operating unit, a solenoid valve, a control unit. The operating unit changes speed using hydraulic pressure being supplied. The solenoid valve is selectively in operative or non-operative states to selectively supply the hydraulic pressure to the operating unit. The control unit controls the operation and non-operation of the solenoid vale by controlling current applied to the solenoid valve. In the operative state, the current applied to the solenoid is switched from the maximum value to the minimum value. The invention maintains the minimum value higher than the level of switched current. The invention switches the current applied to the solenoid from the maximum value to the minimum value when the one solenoid performing a gear shift is switched to the operation state from the non-operation state. The invention maintains the minimum value higher than the level of the switched current to effectively prevent the hydraulic pressure applied to the operating unit from decreasing.
