The present invention relates to an image display device and a method for operating the same. The method for operating an image display device according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises the steps of displaying a content screen; displaying a home menu having a plurality of items as a 3D object in a portion of the content screen in case that there is a home menu display input; and highlighting a focused item to be displayed in case that a certain item in the menu is focused, thereby improving user′s convenience.
