The method involves melting coating material (3) by energy (6) and spraying the molten material on the to-be-coated surface (2) by atomized process gas (7). The coating material of thermal spraying device (4) is fed as solid and the solid is subjected to pretreatment prior to melting for setting defined structure. The coating material is provided with defined structure prior to the feed to the thermal spraying device. The post-treatment of the coating (10) is performed to the surface.
