A heat regulator comprises a liquid-filled bulb 21 for sensing the temperature of a heat carrier (e.g., hot water) and acting on an expansion capsule 19 to move a lever 4 pivoted on a pin 1 such that increase in heat operates microswitch 7 to open its circuit and stop a mixing valve being driven in its " hot " position. If the temperature of the heat carrier rises still further the lever 4 operates micro-switch 8 to close the circuit driving the mixing valve in the reverse direction. The temperature differential may be adjusted by a set-screw 26. A bulb 24 is also connected to the capsule 19 and has an anticipatory heater 23 which may provide maximum heating when switch 7 is closed, less heat when switch 7 is opened and be switched completely off when switch 8 is closed. The micro-switches 7 and 8 are carried on arms 5 and 6 of a control lever pivoted on pin 1 and having a third arm 9 which is acted on by a capsule 11 connected to a bulb 13 for sensing the temperature outside the object (e.g., a building) being heated. Thus the outside temperature controls the positions of the switches 7 and 8 whilst their actuators are controlled by the temperature of the heat carrier; the switches are therefore operated at a lower temperature of bulb 21 when the outside temperature is higher. The temperature at which the object is to be maintained is adjustable by knob 29, rotation of which raises or lowers the capsule 11. The relationship between the outside temperature and movement of the switches 7 and 8 is preset to take account of heat insulation and characteristics of the heating installation by means of an intermediate lever 10 which is at right angles to the plane of Fig. 1. As shown in Fig. 2, the pivot 15 may be moved in a slot 14 to vary the transmission ratio between capsule 11 and lever arm 9. The temperature of the heat carrier may be reduced at night by controlling the current to the heater 23 by a time switch or by providing such a controlled heater on a second bulb connected to capsule 11.</p>
