The method for provision of substantially permanent mud flow characteristics within the temperature range from about 120°F (49°C) up to about 40°F (4°C) includes addition to drilling mud of an additive that contains the product of carboxylic acid reaction having at least two carboxyl fragments and polyamine with at least two functional amine groups provided that the additive does not contain alkoxylated alkylamides and/or amides of fatty acids. The composition consists of the product of carboxylic acid reaction having at least two carboxyl fragments and polyamine with at least two functional amine groups provided that the additive does not contain alkoxylated alkylamides and/or amides of fatty acids.
