PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a card reader that can suppress degradation of reading accuracy of magnetic data or recording accuracy thereof even when a card with a magnetic stripe conforming to an International Standard or a JIS standard is processed by being conveyed in the transverse direction of the card.SOLUTION: The card reader comprises: a card conveyance mechanism 6 that conveys a card 2; a conveyance passage 5 of the card 2; a magnetic head; a head movement mechanism that makes the magnetic head be moved in a width direction of the conveyance passage 5; and a contact part 66a with which one edge of the card 2 in a conveyance direction of the card 2 comes into contact. The conveyance mechanism 6 comprises: a drive source 39; conveyance rollers 32A and 32B that are arranged on both edge sides respectively in the width direction of the conveyance passage 5 and convey the card 2 until one edge of the card 2 comes into contact with the contact part 66a; a torque limiter 86 that is arranged in a middle of a power transmission route from the drive source 39 to the conveyance roller 32A; and a torque limiter 89 that is arranged in a middle of a power transmission route from the drive source 39 to the conveyance roller 32B. |
