The invention describes the use of an acting principle -water soluble chitosan amino-polysaccharide having a molecular weight higher than 50000 Da selected from chitosan, hydroxyalkyl chitosan, carboxyalkyl chitosan and/or carboxyalkyl chitosan useful for the topical treatment of inflammatory diseases of the nails, such as psoriasis, lichen planus and atopic dermatitis. Another subject of the invention is a method of treating nail inflammatory diseases comprising the topical treatment of inflammatory diseases of the nails, comprising application of said acting principle on the nail open, semi-open surface or occlusive medication and a formulation for topical treatment, comprising the acting principles or a combination thereof with active components selected from corticosteroids, keratolytic agents, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents, anti-psoriatic agents, immunosuppressive agents, antiseptic agents, moisturizers, and/or nail strengthening agents, the formulation may be a nail lacquer, a spray, a cream, an ointment, a gel, a lotion or a foam and may have a content in chitosan, chitosan derivative or a salt thereof from 0.1 to 25 wt.% with respect to the total weight of the formulation. |
