A valve controlling the flow of liquid into a tank 10 comprises a valve closure member 16, connected to a piston 18 which divides a chamber 13 into two chambers 22, 23. The valve is opened to admit liquid to the tank by the liquid opening a valve 24 which moves a rod 58 to open a port 56 to allow flow to a conduit 47 and nozzle 35. The jet from nozzle 35 is directed to a pitot head 39 to provide a pressure in chamber 23 to open the valve 16. The jet from the nozzle 35 is cylindrical all the time air is drawn through a pipe 43 and passage 41. As the liquid level rises, liquid rises in an open tube 51 and covers the pitot head 39 and rises up the tube 34. The pressure from the jet 35 is thus gradually reduced and the valve 16 progressively closes until the level reaches the top of tube 43 and air is no longer drawn in. The jet then spreads and the valve 16 closes completely. The valve 16 can be opened manually by a lever 59 to allow flow from the tank.</p> |
