Dynamic illumination of a dynamically configurable graphical display associated with a vehicle information system is described herein. By way of example, the graphical display can include at least one light pipe configured to propagate light within an interior portion of the light pipe, and at least one light source that emits light to the light pipe. The light pipe can include a display surface coupled to the graphical display. In addition, a control circuit is provided that can obtain a vehicle characteristic and/or user input associated with a vehicle system and alter the light source and/or characteristic of the light pipe based thereon. Accordingly, the illumination system can dynamically change illumination characteristics of the graphical display based at least in part on concurrent vehicle characteristics (e.g., vehicle speed, engine rotation, temperature, lighting, and so on) or user input, or both.
