The system (100) has a transverse conveyor-control unit (110) controlling a motor acting together with a transverse conveyor (10) for conveying mail (1) to a target sorting layer. A detecting unit (120) is arranged in a conveyor (30) for moving the mail to the transverse conveyor, and outputs detection signal (sg) corresponding to length and/or position of the mail. A control unit (130) transmits motor control signal (sc) containing rotational speed of the motor to the conveyor-control unit for moving the mail to a reference-layer on the transverse conveyor based on the detection signal.
