PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that forms an image on a transfer target material in a short time, even when an image carrier is driven without being used for image formation.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises: an image carrier 2; a charing unit 10; a charging bias application unit 110; a static elimination unit 12; a static elimination bias application unit 120; and a control unit 130. The charging unit 10 charges the surface of the image carrier 2 on the basis of the application of the charging bias thereto. The static elimination unit 12 eliminates static electricity of the charged image carrier 2 on the basis of the application of the static elimination bias thereto. In a predetermined case of rotating the image carrier 2, the control unit 130 controls the charging bias application unit 110 to apply, to the charging unit 10, the charging bias of a smaller value than that of the charging bias during image formation during which an electrostatic latent image is formed on the surface of the image carrier 2. In the predetermined case, the control unit 130 controls the static elimination bias application unit 120 to apply, to the static elimination unit 12, the static elimination bias of a smaller value than that of the static elimination bias during image formation. |
