A composition comprises metaldehyde and/or hexamethylenetetramine and/or an oxime, and a material which produces sparks upon combustion. The spark producing material may be one of a number of finely powdered metals or metal compounds, such as magnesium, titanium, hafnium, niobium, tantalum etc. The composition may also comprise a colour producing material, colour enhancing material and adhesive. Preferably, the colour producing material is a compound of barium, boron, copper, lithium, sodium or strontium. The colour enhancing material may comprise chlorine, such as chlorinated rubber, whilst the adhesive can be one or more of dextrin, shellac, gum arabic, accaroid resin and nitrocellulose. An inorganic perchlorate and/or an inorganic nitrate can also be included in the composition. In another aspect, a pyrotechnic device comprises the aforementioned composition. Preferably, the pyrotechnic device is an indoor firework. The composition may be rolled to form a pill or tablet. The use of the composition to make a pyrotechnic device is also claimed. |
