[Also in Division G3] A device for a profiling lathe for correcting machining errors due to say tool wear comprises a unit for gauging a work piece and generating an error signal representing the difference between the gauged dimension and the required size, a template displacing mechanism together with a device giving a displacement signal, a unit providing a difference signal between the error signal and displacement signal, and hydraulic means responsive to the difference signal for moving the template to reduce the difference signal. Each workpiece is profiled in the normal way, from a template 19 and is then compared dimensionally with a reference workpiece (27) (Fig. 1, not shown), any difference causing vertical displacement of the template (19) by a double acting hydraulic motor (Fig. 8, not shown). The workpiece is then re-machined to a closer tolerance. |
