1,220,387. Coated floor covering. BADISCHE ANILIN-& SODA-FABRIK A.G. 24 May, 1968 [27 May, 1967], No. 24828/68. Heading B2E. The underside of textile floor coverings are coated by applying a composition of an aqueous gellable polymer dispersion and 20-900 parts by weight of fillers having a particle size of from 0.1-5 mm., with or without sensitising substances, plasticisers, stabilisers, antioxidants and/or cross linking substances, gelling, compressing and drying. The aqueous gel polymer dispersion may comprise synthetic rubber latices e.g. copolymers of butadiene with styrene and/or acrylonitrile or acrylic esters, natural rubber latices, aqueous dispersions of homopolymers and copolymers of ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic esters e.g. acrylic and methacrylic acid esters, vinyl esters of carboxylic acids such as acetic acid and propionic acid, homopolymers of vinyl chloride. Reactive monomers may be incorporated to cause transverse cross linking e.g. acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, maleic acid, butanediol monoacrylate, acrylamide, N-methylolacrylamide, N-methoxy-methyl-methacrylamide. Anionic, cationic or nonionic emulsifying agents may be incorporated. Fillers mentioned are ground cork, wood powder, sand, fibres, e.g. rayon stable fibres, polyamide, polyester fibres. Sensitising agents mentioned are polyvinyl methyl ether, electrolytes such as ammonium chloride. Examples of suitable plasticisers, stabilisers, antioxidants and/or cross linking substances are given. The coating composition may be applied using coating knives or rollers. The floor coverings may be woven carpets, needle loom carpets and tufted carpets. The underside may be pre-treated with a mixture of the aqueous sensitisable polymer dispersion, the sensitiser agent and if desired cross linking substances. A succession of coatings having different fillers to achieve a sandwich structure may be applied, the second layer being applied to the first layer without previous gelling e.g. a cork-filled layer may be first applied, followed by a second sand-filling coating to produce a material suitable for a tile. Combination of fillers may be used e.g. cork and sand. The compression of the coating may be combined with the embossing of a texture e.g. a honeycomb.
|
