PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable compression ratio engine in which design freedom in a cylinder head is ensured and which has a cylinder head compatible with that of a fixed compression ratio engine.SOLUTION: In a variable compression ratio engine 1, an ignition plug 11 is movably supported by a cylinder head 2, and a movement of the ignition plug 11 can change the volume of a combustion chamber 5 to change a compression ratio. A spring 26 is accommodated in an ignition plug attachment hole 20 of the cylinder head 2 and is arranged between a bracket 28 fixed to the cylinder head cover 25 and the ignition plug 11 to move the ignition plug 11.
