<p>A stacker crane (1) is configured in such a manner that a first wheel support section (71) is affixed to a travel carriage body (19) so as to be capable of pivoting in the horizontal direction. A first drive wheel (33) is supported by the first wheel support section (71) and can come into contact with one side surface of a lower guide rail (5b). A lock mechanism (75) affixes the first wheel support section (71) to the travel carriage body (19) so that the first wheel support section (71) cannot pivot. A second wheel support section (73) is affixed to the travel carriage body (19) so as to be capable of pivoting in the horizontal direction. A second drive wheel (35) is supported by the second wheel support section (73) and can come into contact with the other side surface of the lower guide rail (5b). A pressing mechanism (77) presses the first wheel support section (71) and the second wheel support section (73) in the direction in which the distance between the first wheel support section (71) and the second wheel support section (73) is reduced, and this causes the first drive wheel (33) and the second drive wheel (35) to grip the lower guide rail (5b) from the sides.
