The battery (1) has single battery cells (3) that are stacked in cuboid shape to form a stack and are electrically contacted with each other. The stack is arranged in housing (2) whose one side is provided with a rectangular opening. The stacked and electrically contacted single battery cells are fixed in housing by a casting material (4) such as silicon gel. The single battery cells are provided with foamed intermediate layers made of polyurethane and polypropylene material.
