Provided is a mechanical seal with which the associated components, such as a stationary-side seal member and the like, a baffle sleeve, and a damper, can be preassembled reliably and in a controlled state at a work site, a service center or the like, thereby reducing the number of assembly steps during on-site work. This mechanical seal is equipped with a seal ring (9), and a mating ring (10) that opposes and makes sliding contact with the seal ring (9), with either the seal ring (9) or the mating ring (10) being supported via a bellows (7) on the device-interior side of a seal cover (2) mounted in a housing (1), and the other, that is, the mating ring or the seal ring, rotating together with a rotary shaft (3). This mechanical seal is characterized by being equipped with a baffle sleeve (17, 37), which has an approximately L-shaped cross section and is affixed to the device-exterior side of the seal cover (2), and which introduces a quenching liquid to the sliding surface between the seal ring (9) and the mating ring (10), and the baffle sleeve (17, 37) is constructed such that a flange part (21, 38) and a tubular part (22, 39) are separate from each other. |
