The present invention relates to a gas nitriding method for steel, the gas nitriding method comprising a step for charging steel into a furnace, a heat treating step, and a cooling step; and more specifically, to a gas nitriding method for steel which is provided to improve toughness of steel by generating a compound layer of a single phaseγ' on a surface of the steel by controlling heat treatment temperature (T) and a nitriding constant (KN).
