An objective of the present invention is to suitably display a display image in superposition upon an image of the physical world. An optical assembly superpositions upon an image of the physical world a display image which is displayed in display elements and guides same to an observer's eyes. A display control unit controls a display size and a display location of a display image upon the display elements such that the display image is displayed in a display superposition region (flat region) which is detected from the image of the physical world. For example, the display control unit controls a display state of the display image according to a circumstance of the image superposition region of the image of the physical world. In addition, for example, the display control unit selectively displays the display image either in a line of sight region or out of the line of sight region according to the observer's line of sight.
