Crotonic acids of formula I:- where one or two of R1, R2 and R3 = l. alkyl opt. substd. by OH, hal, NO2, NH2, NHCOMe, CN, CONH2, opt. substd. by Me, CO2Et, OH, OMe, SMe, SOMe or SO2Me are prepd. by redn. of the corresp. ketone with a complex metal hydride or activated aluminium. The novel ketones are prepd. e.g. by Friedel-Crafts acylation of a biphenyl with maleic anhydride. I and salts of I prolong bleeding times and have antiphlogistic, analgesic and anti-tussive activity. |
