The present invention is capable of reducing search time for data by significantly reducing the number of times for searching a data file and a primary index file by lowering the number of data entry in a dictionary index file. For this purpose, an index file generating method includes a data file generating step of arranging data having a plurality of fields filled with field values, in a table format and storing a data address value by adding it the arranged data; a primary index file generating step of grouping a key which is a field, selected from the plurality of fields, into groups having the same key value and storing an index address value by adding it to the key values in order of arrangement; and a dictionary index file generating step of uniquely arranging the key values of the primary index file according to each key value and and adding and storing a range of the index address value.
