PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably move a moving part while suppressing increase in the number of components.SOLUTION: An image reading apparatus comprises: a reading unit for reading a document on a document platen; a guide part extending in a scanning direction of the reading unit; a moving part which mounts the reading unit and slides on the guide part; a rack part extending in the scanning direction of the reading unit; and a drive unit mounted on the moving part and comprising a pinion gear meshed with the rack part. The rack part is disposed between the pinion gear and the guide part. A slide contact portion between the guide part and the moving part includes a first slide contact portion at the rack part side, and a second slide contact portion separated from the rack part farther than the first slide contact portion. In the first slide contact portion, one of the guide part and the moving part comprises a first slide contact surface inclined to slide the moving part closer to the rack part, and in the second slide contact portion, the other of the guide part and the moving part comprises a second slide contact surface to prevent the moving part from sliding closer to the rack part. |
