A device and a method for controlling keys in a portable terminal are provided to operate a command in the portable terminal according to a user's intention when the command is incorrectly received during key operation by generating a priority table based on a frequency of frequently inputted input keys, and apply hotkeys to real operation by enabling the user to store the hotkey according to an operation mode. A key input unit(102) receives an operation command from a user. A storage unit(104) stores a priority table set by a frequency of the operation command received through the key input unit. A control unit(114) controls to set the priority table by detecting key operation and controls the operation based on the priority table. The operation command is an operation mode changing command and a moving command. The priority table is generated by generating and calculating frequency data of the key operation in each operation mode. The control unit controls the final operation by applying the priority table of each mode when key operation is incorrectly received. |
