Rounding sharp edges of bricks before firing - by applying oblique rollers to the extruded clay, before, during or after cutting

The method may be applied to produce bricks with definitely-rounded edges, but is thought of also as merely taking away the excessive sharpness of a too-square corner. Thus the rollers may be almost V-shaped or, as in the illustration, rather more rounded. Bricks may be treated singly or grouped into blocks: the blocks may or may not be already cut. In the illustration a number of rollers (15) driven from a common axle (13) are combined with knife blades (14): these blades may perform the actual cutting or may move withint cuts already made. The spaces between the rollers which shape the corners, can accommodate profile rollers to apply a surface finish to the face of the bricks.
