A vine stem (3) is enclosed, in a wrapping (6) which is impermeable to light. The wrapping can be buried spade-deep in the ground, and it can be of non-rigid elastic material, secured to the stem by an elastic band (9). Alternatively the wrapping can be a rigid tube, enclosing the stem with sufficient clearance so as not to hinder growth. As a further alternative it can be a spiral strip wound round the stem in overlapping turns, the ends being joined by press-studs fitting in holes.
|
