A remote server desktop protocol application (103) runs on a server (101), allowing access by a remote client (105) connected via e.g. the Internet and using a remote desktop services application (107). The remote desktop protocol is used to define a virtual channel (201) along which are sent messages containing data related to the latency of the Internet connection. The server may use the data received from the client to maintain an average value of latency, compare the value to thresholds and, based on stored client profiles, determine mitigating actions to be executed at the client, such as reducing screen resolution and colour depth and adjusting audio parameters, in order to reduce latency in the connection,. Monitoring can also be done via an external monitor. |
