<p>A method of encoding and communicating video data comprises encoding 102 a video data file (22, Figure 1) to create an encoded video data file (24, Figure 1) and sending the encoded video data file (24) to a destination or receiver (30). New header information for the encoded video data file (44) is sent 114 to the destination (30) when sending the encoded video data file to the destination is complete 112. As also claimed, a portion of the encoded video data file is sent to the destination at the same time as (concurrently with) the video data is being encoded, via a trigger 106. The destination / receiver can modify (replace) a header (46) of the encoded video data file to include the new header information. The new header may be converted to a character-encoded format for transmission. Data file portions may be sent in separate communication sessions, each using a communication protocol having functionality to append data to a file sent during an earlier communication session. The overall time taken for the video data file to be encoded and sent is thereby reduced.</p> |
