PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction stirring joining method that leaves no joining traces such as holes and recesses after a probe is pulled out in the ending part of joining, and that dispenses with or simplifies a fixing device which prevents the positional deviation of joining members caused by the inserting pressure of the probe. SOLUTION: The periphery 11a only of the rotary part 11 of a joining tool 10 is pressed against the abutting part 3 of the members 1, 2 to be joined that consist of two aluminum plates arranged in an abutting manner against each other. Then, while the part in contact with the periphery 11a is softened by frictional heat and stirred, the periphery is relatively moved along the abutting part 3 in a state pressed against it, so that the members 1, 2 are joined to each other at the abutting part 3.
