The present invention relates to a method for sending a sound source and a communication system for the same, which converts a tone into a codec standard included in a calling terminal in a communication system and transmits the converted tone to the calling terminal. According to the present invention, the communication system for sending a sound source with the codec standard supported by a calling terminal comprises: an exchange device for confirming one or more codecs included in the calling terminal if the calling terminal attempts a call connection and requesting the conversion of a tone or a guide broadcast sound to a media converting server if there is no supported codec among the codecs; and the media converting server for receiving the tone or guide broadcast sound from the exchange device, converting the tone or guide broadcast sound into the codec standard included in the calling terminal, and sending the converted tone or guide broadcast sound to the calling terminal.
