PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner for carrying out a careful control of an air condition corresponding to the activity amount of a person staying in the room, and to provide a method of controlling the air conditioner.SOLUTION: An air conditioner includes: an imaging means 110 for taking an image of the inside of a room where an indoor unit 100 is mounted; and a control means 130 for detecting a person staying in the room based on image information input from the imaging means 110 and carrying out air conditioning control corresponding to the detected result. The control means 130 is provided with: a human body detecting part 131; a face detecting part 132; a movement amount calculation means 134 for calculating the movement amount of the person staying in the room based on the change with time of the position and size of a head part which are detected by the human body detecting part 131 or the position or size of a face which are detected by the face detecting part 132; an activity amount calculation part 135 for calculating the activity amount of the person staying in the room based on the movement amount calculated by the movement amount calculation means 134; and control changing parts 136,137 for changing the air conditioning control corresponding to the activity amount calculated by the activity amount calculation part 135. |
