A motor control device which can estimate a magnetic pole position even in case of large friction or a heavy load and which further is not affected by motor cogging torque or disturbance and a magnetic pole position estimation method are provided. The motor control device has a magnetic pole position estimator (9), wherein the magnetic pole position estimator has a low-accuracy magnetic pole position estimator (22) which generates a first estimated rough magnetic pole position at a unit of ten degrees, a high-accuracy magnetic pole position estimator (23) which generates a second estimated accurate magnetic pole position at a unit of one degree after the first estimated magnetic pole position is generated, an estimated magnetic pole position selector (24) which selects one of the first estimated magnetic pole position and the second estimated magnetic pole position, and an automatic speed instruction generator (21) which generates a speed instruction for the magnetic pole position estimation. |
