A heating furnace (1) provided with: a furnace frame (20) for forming a furnace interior space (10) for heating an object (100) to be heated; a plurality of heating devices (30) arrayed along the direction of conveyance of the object (100) to be heated in the furnace interior space (10); a plurality of air intake ports (40) disposed in the bottom part (22) of the furnace frame (20) in corresponding fashion to the heating devices (30); and air intake dampers (60) disposed in the air intake ports (40) and used for opening and closing the air intake ports (40). Gaps (32c, 32d, 34c, 34d) through which airflow can pass are disposed on the upstream side and the downstream side of the heating devices (30) in the conveyance direction. As a result thereof, a heating furnace capable of efficiently controlling the heating state and a method for controlling the heating furnace are provided.
