The method involves driving a delivery volume-producing conveyor (20) by an electric drive (30) rotating at a rotation speed. An actual volumetric flow and an actual delivery pressure are controlled to a target volumetric flow (Qs) and/or a target delivery pressure (Ps), respectively, and a rotary speed (n) of the drive is provided as a manipulated variable, during fixed delivery volume. A large delivery volume and a small delivery volume are provided during full load operation and partial load operation of the electric drive. The delivery volume-producing conveyor is designed as an axial piston pump, swash plate pump or inclined axial pump. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computing unit for operating a fluid pump (2) a fluid pump.
