The method involves estimating a current value (C) of real torque of an engine by using the data such as current value (BV) of transmission ratio and a current value (omega) of engine speed, and activating an engine idling regulator based on the estimation of the current value. The estimated current value of the engine and a reference value are compared, where activation of the regulator depends on the comparison of the values. The regulator is not activated when the current value of the real torque of the engine is greater than a reference value (C-MIN).
