The method involves forming a single-surface basic knit (11) in which the float threads (12) are inserted, in the row of stitches. The float threads on the first side knit fabric are transferred with a thread guide to a starting position, to be visible on the second side knit fabric. The stitches are transferred corresponding to the desired width of the second knitted fabric on the visible side float thread portion. The back slopes of stitches are transferred to the original needles and the basic knit stitch rows are formed. An independent claim is included for a knitted fabric.
