An emergency drainage system and a method for operating the same are disclosed. The emergency drainage system comprises a water level sensor part to output first and second sensing signals based on the level of stagnant water on a basement floor; a drainage controller to output first and second control signals in response to the first sensing signal and a third control signal in response to the second sensing signal; a plurality of valves to produce a drainage path between the basement floor and a fire department connection on a ground floor; and a fire pump control circuit to control a fire pump to discharge the stagnant water on the basement floor through the fire department connection in response to the third control signal.
