<p>In a storage system, an actual area is assigned to a virtual area in a virtual volume from a pool which is formed of a plurality of actual areas based on a plurality of types of storage devices having different characteristics and in which the plurality of actual areas are managed as a plurality of layers on the basis of the characteristics of the storage devices, and data is stored in the actual area. In the storage system, the data in each actual area is moved from a layer to another layer in the pool. When detecting a predetermined trigger in which a change of the actual area where data is stored should be considered, a data management system identifies, for each of one or more data items that include the data in a first actual area where the data is stored, the performance requirement of the actual area, identifies a layer that satisfies the highest performance requirement in the identified performance requirements among the plurality of layers, and determines the identified layer as the storage destination layer of the one or more data items.</p> |
