The system makes it possible to display a region of a plan or of a map on request. It consists of a keyboard (1), of a built-in electronic module and of a flat screen (2), and of its illumination. It allows the user, once the region sought and the parameters of the display (scale factor, orientation) have been specified, to obtain the outline of the desired region on screen. A reduction in the information, to a vectorial or symbolic type, makes it possible not to use bulk memory of the hard disk or optical disk type, and thus considerably to reduce the volume, the weight, the power and the cost of the system.
